Mater certissima, pater semper incertus.En reprenant l'adage dans le « roman familial », Freud en tire l'immédiate conséquence : l'incertitude du père est à la mesure de l'infidélité de la mère, de sa trahison. La mère est aussi « certissime » qu'elle est à la source du premier de tous les doutes. La filiation maternelle est certaine, l'amour de la mère ne l'est pas. Dans le fond, la mère est toujours la femme d'un autre. L'enfant en sait quelque chose qui assiste, fasciné et impuissant, à la folie de la scène primitive.Des bras qui ne se tendent pas quand on désirerait vivement qu'ils vous embrassent, un cadeau d'anniversaire toujours à côté, don de la méconnaissance, un mot qui glace quand on attend d'être réchauffé, une confidence ou un moment d'abandon qui se retournent traîtreusement, un regard toujours ailleurs impossible à accrocher, une distraction affichée quand on se voudrait écouté… la clinique de tous les jours fait l'inventaire des déceptions et des incertitudes entre la mère et l'enfant. Le fils serait-il mieux nanti que la fille ?
